Updates

SBG Orkney BJJ gym

Here are some updates as to what’s happening.

  • The beginners BJJ course finishes next Friday 3rd Feb. This will be replaced by standard beginners’ classes and will follow a cyclical curriculum. Anyone will be able to attend these at any point and revisit the concepts. Those that have attended the course can reattend the classes to recap on techniques, or you can also attend the fundamentals classes or do double classes as some of you have already started doing. Likewise, all existing students can now attend both classes if they wish. The only other change with the beginner classes is that Tuesday will be NoGi and Friday will now be a Gi class. This provides more options and variety of classes. I’ll post the updated timetable separately.
  • The helpful videos will now be posted in the student portal which can be accessed here; https://members.martialytics.com/ or via the APP. I will add more videos as we go through the weeks and they will be categorised between beginners (by week), fundamentals and juniors – this is for organisational ease of access.
  • Although our classes will continue to run through all half-term and holiday periods, and we also endeavour to keep them as consistent and regular as possible, there will unfortunately be some occasions where we will have to cancel classes. We will however try as much as possible to find workarounds. That being said, there will be no class on Tuesday 7th Feb as I am away on a little SBG training and business road trip (more news to come).
  • Hoodies and Tee’s; I’m planning on bringing back a selection of these. If you would like one, let me know your details and I’ll make sure I get your choice for you. They both come in black, grey and blue and are £30 and £15 respectively. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of them but will make another post if I manage to get one.
  • I have been speaking to the UK SBG team and have been informed that there is to be a SBG UK training camp sometime in June at the SBG UK HQ in Manchester. SBG founder Matt Thornton will be visiting from the US and teaching, alongside other UK top SBG blackbelts. Myself and a select number of students have been invited. More details of this to follow soon for those that are interested in coming.
  • Whilst I am away I am hoping to find out more information about arranging a seminar for our Academy here in Orkney. More details on that as soon as I know more.
  • Just a note re the mats. Whilst I am grateful (and rely on) the help of you guys in putting the mats away, unfortunately they do graze easily whilst going around corners etc, so if we could please be mindful of that and ideally try to move and pile them using two people to avoid damage and prolong their life and use, that would also be much appreciated. I know its not great, but it’s what we’ve got for the moment.
  • Also, just a reminder to wash your Gi’s after every class, maintain good hygiene, keep your nails short and don’t wear any Jewellery.
